Makeloo Studio is the first mill in the Lanaudière region. We transform local wool — entrusted to us by more than sixteen partner farms rather than being burned or landfilled — into fibre, batting, felt and yarn, for applications that go well beyond knitting.
Circular approach
In Québec, up to 93% of the wool produced today is burned or landfilled for lack of an outlet — a figure established by the sheep valorization research group at the Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR), in which we actively participate in the field. Our valorization chain works as a double circular loop: upstream, recovering agricultural wool that would otherwise be waste; downstream, valorizing our own production residues into new products.
We don't just make wool — we're creating a 100% natural Québec alternative…
Our 4 production lines
Opening
The first processing step: the raw fleece is cleared of vegetable matter without damaging its structure.
Carding
Turns the opened fibre into a light, even, insulating batt — warmth and thermal comfort.
Felting
Felted batts 2 to 8 mm thick, dense, durable and naturally fire-resistant — technical applications.
Spinning
The studio's historic core: single and plied yarn, for the textile industry and craft.
Estimated turnaround for a full custom-processing service: 3 to 5 months.
Accreditations and partnerships
Makeloo Studio has completed 8 technical courses from the Woolmark Learning Centre (Australia), holds the Produit du Québec certification, and represents Québec on the board of directors of the Canadian Wool Collective. We are also partners of the Campaign for Wool Canada.
Roadmap — 5 years
