Makeloo Studio is the first wool mill in the Lanaudière region. We turn local wool — the wool that more than sixteen partner farms send us rather than burn or bury — into fibre, batt, felt and yarn, for uses that go well beyond knitting.
A circular approach
In Québec, up to 93% of the wool produced is burned or buried today for lack of an outlet — a figure established by the sheep-valorisation research group at the Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR), which we take part in on the ground. Our chain works as a double circular loop: upstream, we recover farm wool that would otherwise be waste; downstream, we turn our own production offcuts into new products.
We don't just make wool, we are building a 100% natural Québec alternative…
Our 4 production lines
Opening
The first step: vegetable matter is removed from the raw fleece without damaging its structure.
Carding
Turns opened fibre into an even, light, insulating batt — warmth and thermal comfort.
Felting
Felted batts 2 to 8 mm thick, dense, hard-wearing and naturally flame-resistant — technical uses.
Spinning
The historic heart of the mill: singles and plied yarn, for the textile industry and for makers.
Indicative lead time for a full commission-processing service: 3 to 5 months.
Accreditations and partnerships
Makeloo Studio has completed 8 technical courses at the Woolmark Learning Centre (Australia), holds the Produit du Québec certification and represents Québec on the board of the Canadian Wool Collective. We are also a partner of the Campaign for Wool Canada.
Five-year roadmap
Short term (0–18 months)
Consolidating singles and plied yarn, steadying production, supplying our current stockists.
Medium term (18 months – 3 years)
Acquiring the Ramella line (high-capacity spinning), developing a range of technical yarns (insulation, industry).
Long term (3–5 years)
High-value finished products, reach beyond Québec, exports supported by international certifications.
