Fibre processing
Wool spinning has been central to Makeloo Studio since the studio’s beginnings. We transform your fleeces—or wool selected for your project—into a dedicated yarn lot at our Lavaltrie workshop.
Yarn weight, twist and finish are developed around the intended use, from durable sock yarn to expressive art yarn. A sample is submitted for approval before the complete lot is produced.
This service is designed for:
- farms seeking to add value to their fleeces;
- textile designers developing a signature yarn;
- brands looking for local, traceable Quebec wool.

Yarn processing includes sorting, washing, opening, carding or drawing, spinning, plying and skeining. Each group is calculated from the longest yarn weight to be spun as a safe minimum price. The combed (worsted) process applies when the Ramella line is commissioned. Prices are confirmed according to volume and fleece condition. Alpaca carding or drawing includes sorting, opening and the selected step only; washing is excluded. Customer fibre is returned to the customer. Specialty yarns are single-ply and are not plied; pencil roving is not spun.
